PG&E was working to restore power Sunday after high winds knocked out power lines and sent trees tumbling, including one that crashed through a home in Nevada City.

Nobody was home at the Grove Street residence, where a pine tree took out part of the roof and wall Saturday morning.

The residents were able to remove the tree, move back into the house and get an insurance estimate that day, Nevada City police Officer Tucker Huey said.

Elsewhere, fallen trees blocked roadways on Uren Street near Hoffman Lane, Red Dog Road at Boulder Road, and Park Avenue Extension.

Nobody was hurt when the trees fell.

Nevada City police helped redirect traffic around the trees while Nevada City Public Works cleared the timber within city limits and Caltrans cleared timber outside city limits.

Grass Valley police fielded seven calls related to the weekend winds, including downed power lines, Comcast lines and a fallen tree that blocked access to the ball field at Condon Park.

In addition to the felled trees, high winds left an estimated 5,000 Nevada County PG&E customers without power for part of Saturday.

Most of the outages were in and around Nevada City, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.
