Re: The Union, Other Voices, Nov. 17.
Cheryl Cook could not be more wrong. The Tea Party Patriots is a grassroots movement, and is not funded by any “billionaires.” For Nevada County, at least, you can call Stan Meckler, and get our financial information.
Yes, at political events, we wear our red shirts to identify who we are. Is that so bad? Don't some on the liberal side wear blue shirts? Is that so bad? Are we not all Americans, and believe in the red, white, and blue? We care about our country — very much.
Tea Party Patriots believe in: government fiscal responsibility, our politicians being responsive to their constituents; free-market enterprise. We want to keep our freedom, and our democracy. We want government to get out of our way, and let us innovate and create.
We want health care reform. We don't think the current house bill is the answer.
Our proposal; remove the waste, fraud and abuse from the current system; allow health insurance companies to compete across state lines (right now they are severally limited); initiate tort reform, so medical professionals don't have to pay for huge malpractice insurance premiums to protect themselves; our elected representatives and staff must enroll in the same medical insurance plan that the rest of us have.
Cheryl Cook also brings up social issues such as: gay marriage, freedom to choose, freedom of religion. But we don't involve ourselves in social issues. This is not our mission. Each of our members has their own opinion on these matters.
Our mission statement is: We believe in fiscal responsibility. Limited government, free markets, and respect for our Constitution and Bill of Rights, and a government that answers to the people.
We recognize the strength of grassroots organizing powered by activism and civic responsibility at the local level.
The Tea Party Patriots' mission is to organize like-minded individuals, educate and inform others based on our core values, to secure public policy consistent with those values, and to positively affect the outcome of elections.
