Several area business people and volunteer groups are offering meals on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Here are two.
If you want your community Thanksgiving meal printed in The Union, e-mail the information to City Editor Trina Kleist at tkleist@theunion.com or call (530) 477-4230.
Meal for veterans and their families
The Nevada City Elks Lodge No. 518 is hosting a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the usual fixings and desert from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Elks Lodge is at 518 Nevada City Highway, across the road and near the Rood Administrative Center. For information, visit NevadaCityElks.com
Free meal at Matteo's Public
Matteo's Public — with help from SPD Market, Accountability and numerous volunteers — will open from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday for a complimentary Thanksgiving meal.
“We aren't open for business that day,” said owner Matt Margulies. “We just would like to invite people in who could use a wholesome, hot meal and some holiday cheer.”
The business will reopen Friday for regular hours.
“As a family, we have volunteered on Thanksgiving, and each of us found it very rewarding,” Margulies added. “To have the opportunity to serve our community, in this beautiful, old building, is just remarkable. We hope to make this a new family tradition.”
Matteo's Public is at 300 Commercial St., at the corner of North Pine in downtown Nevada City.
