‘Under Our Skin' makes Oscar short-list

“Under Our Skin” has been selected as one of 15 finalists competing for “Best Documentary Feature” in the 82nd Academy Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Nevada County author Jordan Fisher Smith narrates the film about Lyme disease, and his own struggle with it is depicted.

A Los Angeles Times film critic touted “Under Our Skin” as an Oscar possibility, calling it a compelling work that needs to be adopted by a major distributor to ensure it's widely seen.

The Documentary Branch Screening Academy Committee viewed all 89 qualifying documentaries during the preliminary round of voting. “Under Our Skin” is competing against “Food, Inc.” and “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers,” among others.

Academy members will select five nominees from among the 15 titles, Academy Awards nominations will be announced Feb. 2, and the Oscars will be presented March 7.
