Renee Leone Zweigle of Grass Valley and John Wesley Gates (pictured) of Sutter Creek were married Sept. 19, in the afternoon, on the lawn of the Gates family residence in Sutter Creek, nestled between the trees and four Roman pillars. The Rev. Michael Peoples officiated.
Guests included 150 close family and friends, many of which were from out of state.
The matron of honor was Breanna Predroso, the bride's longtime friend. Bridesmaids were Allison Brodish, college friend; Brieanan Cheatham, college friend; Meaghan Gately, college roommate; and Jennifer Spence, sister-in-law.
The best man was Billy Cheatham, the groom's college roommate. The groomsmen was Andrew Routt, longtime high school friend; Chris Zweigle, bride's brother; and Paul Spence, brother-in-law.
The flower girls were Brooke and Taylor Michael, whom the bride was a nanny for during college. The ringbearer was Sean Spence, nephew to the groom.
After the ceremony guests found their seats via a large treasure map and were seated at tables with centerpieces of treasure chests overflowing with blue hydrangeas and jewels to follow the Caribbean theme of the wedding. As the celebration continued into the night, a few guests found themselves wearing pirate eye patches which only added to the fun.
A small ship was a cake topper, and there was a five tiered cupcake stand decorated with blue hydrangeas and pink tiger lily flowers.
The bride is the daughter of Michael and Laura Zweigle.
She attended Bear River High School and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in secondary education. She works as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher for the Linden Unified School District.
The groom is the son of Martin and Diane Gates.
He attended Amador High School and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in mining engineering. He works at Basic Resources, Inc.
The couple lives in Modesto.
