A partnership with the county's Health Department is among the agenda items on tap for tonight's Nevada Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees meeting.
The board is slated to consider enlisting the public health department's services for activities such as counseling students individually on reproductive health concerns, facilitating student substance abuse prevention clubs such as Friday Night Live, and consulting school officials about suicide prevention, HIV education and sexual orientation issues.
Other items on the agenda include:
• Considering the county's proposal to designate Bear River High School as a disaster relief center. The agreement would make the school campus a site for mass vaccination or treatment in the event of a disaster. Nevada Union High School is already a disaster relief site.
• Filling open spots on the Independent Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee, which oversees a $15 million school improvement bond approved by area voters in the 2002 election.
The committee meets quarterly to review spending on classroom repair and construction. Three spots are vacant, and Wayne Klauer, a parent of a Bear River student, is seeking to fill one.
The district is also seeking a senior citizen and a representative from a formal taxpayers organization to round out the committee. Those interested can contact Assistant Superintendent Karen Suenram about applying.
Bond money has already funded projects such as the BRHS aquatic complex and theater, and renovations at Nevada Union and Park Avenue campuses.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Room 5 of the Park Avenue Alternative Education campus, located at 140 Park Ave. in Grass Valley.
