Breanne Mitchell broke through for the Division IV Sac-Joaquin Section championship Saturday at Folsom's Willow Hills course, leading Bear River's varsity girls back to the state meet after taking third place in Division IV.
Mitchell ran a time of 19 minutes, 56 seconds, holding Hughson's Rebecca Hobby (20:06) to second place and Summerville's Kristen Turner (20:09) to third.
Bret Harte took first place in Division IV for the second straight year, while Colfax was second.
Seaera Moe ran to 19th place for the Bruins in 22:08, while Harla Moe finished 29th, Abby Grebe 32nd Taylor Kimble 49th and Elizabeth Boyer 60th.
The Forest Lake Christian boys took fifth, led by Austin Violette's second-place finish in Division V in 18:15. The mark qualifies Violette for the state meet.
Other finishers for Forest Lake Christian were Travis Clough (13th, 20:35), August Gonet (19th, 21:03), Luke Reed (29th, 23:38), Zac Bagley (30th, 23:44), David Herron (31st, 23:48), Jacob Sidnam (33rd, 24:53).
Nevada Union took sixth in the Division I section varsity boys. Leading the way was Scott Valentine in 22nd in 17:31. Thomas McAtee finished 31st in 17:57 while Dominic Castro-Wehr placed 38th in 18:13. Sam Asher finished 41st in 18:19 while Simon Lambert (18:38) and Sean McGee (18:40) finished 48th and 49th, respectively. Alec Donahue took 53rd in 19:01.
NU girls placed seventh, led by Jessica Boutte in 20th place in 20:44. She was followed by Sara Marshall (28th, 21:15), Christine Weir (40th, 21:57), Peggy McBride-Hensle (48th, 22:39), Katelyn McGee (51st, 22:53), Annie Creasey (62nd, 23:46) and Anina Lawrence (64th, 24:01.)
Nevada Union's junior varsity boys finished fifth out of all five divisions, led by Tristan Trotter (19th, 18:49). Other finishers were Boots Lawson (23rd, 18:59), Joey Rodrigues (27th, 19:05), Walker Davis (38th, 19:52), Abhi Ardagh (41st, 20:32), Michael McGee (43rd, 21:16) and Kory Richardson (45th, 21:30).
The JV girls finished sixth led by Lizzette Gutierrez (23rd, 23:42) followed by Natalie Orr (34th, 24:15), Cece Larson (36th, 24:30), Devon Kelly (39th, 24:36), Katherine Schuessler (40th, 24:21), Mara Havard (47th, 26:21) and Laurissa Clark (51st, 28:49).
