Did you know that pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States?
A combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong, pickleball is like a slow version of tennis on a smaller court. It is played with a light-weight whiffle-type ball and paddles similar to those used for racquetball.
The emphasis is on coordination, patience and strategy rather than strength and brute power.
After a couple of demonstration days, about 30 people in Lake Wildwood now are interested in starting a Pickleball Club. If you are looking for a game that is quick, easy to learn, and can be played by folks of any age, or if you just want to have fun, contact Gerry Cosby at (530) 432-8081 to be included in the next demonstration.
If you want something a little slower paced and are ready to start your holiday shopping, check out the 21st annual LWW Craft Faire at the Community Center this weekend, Nov. 21 and 22.
Sponsored by the LWW Recreation Committee, the faire will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. It will include more than 35 vendors.
Lunch will be available at the center on Saturday only.
The LWW budget process is underway for the 2010-11 plan year.
The goal of this process is to continue managing the community in a cost-effective manner while reflecting the wishes of the members and determine the annual assessment necessary to meet member expectations.
The meetings are open to all and are the platform for member commentary.
To make the process as transparent as possible and to increase member awareness and participation, copies of the budget meeting schedule are available at LakeWildwood.net; or, you can pick up a schedule in the administration office.
The next open budget meeting is from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 10 in the Oak Room at the Community Center.
As a followup to the Nov. 13 meeting to identify community improvement projects for 2010-11, the focus of the December meeting is to prioritize these projects.
Later the same day, a second meeting in the Oak Room will review and finalize replacement reserves.
Subsequent meetings will be held Jan. 28 to review department budgets; Feb. 18 to review operations and replacement reserve budgets; and March 9, when the budget will be presented to the general membership.
Please pick up a copy of the schedule for all meeting dates, locations, times and topics.
More than 300 adults and children attended the first annual LWW Haunted House. It was a huge success, so be sure to mark your calendar for next year.
A big thank you goes out to our Recreation Department including Amanda Biswell, Sophia Acevedo and Alys Berry. Many donors and volunteers made this a fun and memorable event. Thank you.
