What goods and services do you offer?

Spa Blends manufactures resort-quality body care products featured in 800 resorts and spas nationwide, including the Bellagio, the Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas.

Our signature product is our whipped Body Butter, loaded with shea butter and available in 10 scents. This is a perfect cream for dry, cracked skin and a super moisturizer for hands, feet and body. It melts into the skin just like butter.

What makes you different from others doing the same thing?

My background as a spa owner of 23 years makes me uniquely qualified to compare products.

This history was the catalyst for my decision to manufacture my own line using only the best ingredients in generous quantities. I teamed with a world-renowned cosmetic chemist and created our signature Body Butter.

What's new?

We feel the need to give back to our community and beyond, so we are running a fundraiser for Pleasant Valley School and the Williams Ranch School. Given the tight school budgets, we look forward to helping these and other schools in the future.

Our products also were featured recently at our Relay for Life booth, and we donated 100 percent of our proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

What do you love about your work?

It's so important to know that what we do and what we produce makes a difference in people lives. Our products truly soothe and moisturize. What I enjoy the most is the positive feedback we receive from our customers.

I am also blessed to have a wonderful staff. They make my work life a true pleasure.

What do you find most challenging?

The economy! Like everyone else, we have attempted to navigate the constantly changing economic waters.

As difficult as it has been, I think that we come away with valuable lessons about learning to run a lean and profitable company without compromising quality.

What is your background?

I opened my first business, Kelly Ann's Day Spa, in 1983. Over the years we grew from a 400-square-foot spa into a 5,000-square-foot luxury day spa.

As my business grew, I was always in pursuit of the best products for my clients. After years of searching for a truly great body cream, I decided to create my own. Spa Blends was born.

I fell in love with Nevada County when my father bought a home here in 1993. I was able to move here in 2000 and am now able to work and live in the Gold Country.

Our products are sold locally at Wolf Mountain Day Spa, in Alta Sierra; Bloom, Body Works, Cosmetique and Spoiled Spa in Grass Valley; Polished and Sandy B's in Nevada City; and Head to Heal in Penn Valley.
