Bear River's junior varsity team celebrates its 10-0 season after pounding El Dorado 41-16 to cap a Pioneer Valley League championship.

PLACERVILLE —Bear River did its part to keep the 21-year-old Bruin standard of finishing the season without a losing record, and if the Bruins are fortunate to have a game next Friday night it will be because luck was on its side.
The Bruins (5-5 overall, 2-4, league) beat the Cougars of El Dorado (3-7, 1-5) 40-15 on a night that temperatures got down to 33 degrees in Placerville.
On the fifth play of the game Bear River defensive back Joey Reina stripped the ball from a Cougar receiver after he caught the ball for a turnover. Five plays later, Johnny Jewett ran in from the 11-yard line for the first score of the game.
Jewett finished the game with 73 yards on the ground. Colby Angus led the Bruins' ground attack with 79 yards and a score. Junior running back Sam Houston had 55 yards and a score.
Senior fullback Cole White had 70 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Sophomore quarterback James Harris threw the ball 11 times and found his target on four of them.
The Bruin defense started the second half with a safety by White and Angus tackling the El Dorado quarterback in the end zone for a 23-7 lead.
Reina, Chad Bramer and Angus forced fumbles as well as Reina, Christian Gibbons recovered fumbles for Bear River co-coach Terry Logue's defense.
Senior defensive back Cody Van Fossen, Tyler Quirarte and Jewett picked off errant passes for the Bruins. White led all tacklers with 16 stops, Bramer had 14, Van Fossen eight and Reina had seven.

Bruin halfback Josh Toft scored the first touchdown from the 15 yard line, and running back Trevor McGee scored two touchdowns in the first half, one for 33 yards and the other from the nine, he finished the game with 63 yards. The Bruins went into the half with 20 to 2 lead. El Dorado's two points came as a result of a long snap over the Bear River punter,
Jimmy Bamburg's head into the end zone for a safety. Bruin quarterback Dallen Huetter delivered a pass to Brandon Wooner for a 62 yard touchdown, on way to a seven for thirteen passing night with 152 yards passing. Bamburg scored on an eleven yard run and Stephen Buschmann ran the ball up the middle for Bear Rivers final score of the game and the 10-0 season.
“There was a lot of pressure to win tonight,” Bear River coach Chris Bean. “It is very special to go undefeated.”
