Pair arrested on possession, attempted burglary charges

Two men remained in jail Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to break into the home of a former roommate.

Nevada County Sheriff's deputies responded to a prowler call from the 12000 block of Snowbourne Drive off Banner Lava Cap Road at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the police blotter.

The suspect, identified as David Alan Morris, 25, of Penn Valley, was a former roommate of someone who lived at the residence and believed some of his personal property was inside, said Corp. Jesse King.

“He decided to try to break in,” King said.

After a woman at the residence heard him, her boyfriend “scared him off by firing a shot,” King said.

Deputies later found scratches and pry marks on a window at the residence, he said.

The suspect fled, but was located in the area by deputies inside a vehicle with a man identified as Justin Thomas Owsley, 23.

“They were both smoking hashish and appeared to be under the influence,” King said.

Deputies allegedly found about 450 grams of marijuana and 5 grams of hashish inside the vehicle.

Morris was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale, possessing marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia and attempted burglary. He was being held in lieu of $26,000 bail.

Owsley was booked on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and possessing marijuana and was being held in lieu of $10.000 bail.
