Matt Freitas, former Nevada Union standout cross country runner, smashed the Run Through the Colors 5K race record last Sunday, October 25, on a less cold than usual race day in Nevada City. The record, which was set 13 years ago by Sacramento top-notch runner, Rich Kushman, was destroyed by Matt, who ran much of the race by himself, winning by almost two minutes, setting the new record at 17 minutes, 7 seconds, exactly one minute faster than had been run before.
Matt won the 19-29 age group (AG), with Mike Roberts second AG in 20:05 (fifth overall). Camptonville's Chris Boyer won this AG in the 10K in 37:04 (second), with Daniel Guerrero second in 39:03 (fourth) and Sacramento's Ray Schou third in 40:03 (eighth).
