What products and services do you offer?
We have been installing roofs in Nevada County longer than anyone else. We have a store location with a show room. We are fully insured (many roofers do carry general liability insurance). We specialize in commercial flat roofs with a product called Duro-Last (I think it's the world's best roof). Duro-Last is a single-ply PVC roof. The white membrane stays cool in 100-plus degree weather.
This keeps the building cooler, saving in air conditioning costs and protecting the building's infrastructure (wiring, ducts, plumbing and structural components) by providing a cool environment.
Duro-Last offers the best commercial warranty among all the manufacturers. We are the only installers approved by Duro-Last in Nevada County.
What's new?
We have just added a new product call Tufdec. It also is a PVC-membrane and used to waterproof walking decks over living areas.Because foot traffic on decks can be so destructive to water proof membrane, Tufdec came out with a thick, durable PVC membrane that is glued to the surface and heat welded at the seams. The membrane comes in many different finishes to provide an attractive, long-lasting deck covering.
Because Tufdek is a PVC product, we have extensive experience and expertise working with this product.
What do you love about your work?
I enjoy the relationships with my customers and employees. It is a great feeling when your customers trust you to with their homes. We all work together as a team to provide a quality product and a satisfied customer.
What do you find most challenging?
For the last two years, the recession has been the challenge. We have had to find ways to be more efficient.Last year, we moved our shop from Alta Sierra to Grass valley. This allowed us to be centrally located and frankly, closer to the gas station.
Plus, our new shop has twice the warehouse space, which allows us to manage the inventory more effectively.
Generally, the greatest challenge in roofing is to service all our customers. In the spring that is no problem, but in the fall when our customers really need us, providing everybody with service is always difficult.
I feel proud to still be here and know that we are even better than ever.
What is your background?
I grew up in Southern California and attended Moorpark Junior College, California Luther College and California State University, Northridge, where I earned a bachelor's degree in finance. The day I graduated, I moved to Grass Valley.
A friend of mine lived here, and he was a roofer. So together, we started Gold Country Roofing.
Since that time I have weathered many storms. Today, Gold Country Roofing is an employee-owned company.
