Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley
Rep. Tom McClintock has endorsed fellow Republican Sen. Sam Aanestad for the party nomination for lieutenant governor of California.
Both men represent Nevada County. Aanestad, originally an oral surgeon from Grass Valley, has represented the 12 counties of the northeastern district in the state Senate since 2002, and has termed out.
McClintock, a southern California senator who termed out and who continues to live in Elk Grove, was elected to the Fourth Congressional District in 2008.
Both men cite each other's conservative credentials in the announcement from Aanestad's office Tuesday of McClintock's endorsement.
Aanestad is “a fiscal conservative who has never once voted for a tax increase and has consistently resisted attempts to increase the size of the state bureaucracy,” his office said.
Aanestad's statement also called McClintock “California's top conservative” an d the state's “best-known conservative since President Ronald Reagan.”
“Sam Aanestad is the conservative's choice, and he is my choice, to be California's next lieutenant governor,” Aanestad's press release quotes McClintock as saying. “I was Sam's seatmate in both the Assembly and the Senate, and I had a chance to watch Sam vote consistently for those conservative ideals that Republicans hold so dear.”
