Dena Moitoza-Yates has moved her store and renamed it Dena's Off Main Consignment Shop, at 408 Colfax Ave., Grass Valley.
What's new at your store?
Dena's on Main Consignment Shop is now Dena's Off Main Consignment Shop. Visit me at my new location at 408 Colfax Ave., Grass Valley.
How did you get into this business?
I took over the store operation three and a half years ago after moving to Grass Valley four years ago from the Bay Area.
I was working at Sierra Nevada Hospital as a phlebotomist in the laboratory (one of my varied professions). After settling into my new home, I noticed a newspaper advertisement announcing that Cheryl's Clothes Closet was for sale. Cheryl's had been a well-known shop for more than 25 years.
I enthusiastically pursued the opportunity, and after making several improvements to an already thriving business, Dena's is enjoying a successful run.
Why did you move?
When confronted with the mounting challenges of today's economy, I was compelled to shift my strategy. I searched for an attractive spot with favorable lease terms to ensure I could continue to offer quality merchandise at affordable prices. I found that spot on Colfax Avenue, and it came with a bonus: Ample parking.
My new location is in the midst of an exciting neighborhood. Nearby, you'll find Diego's Restaurant, Summer Thyme's Bakery, the new Italian restaurant, Gumba's, Long's Bottle Shop and the beautiful Memorial Park.
What do you offer at your store?
Consignment store shopping is growing in popularity. I carry a quality selection of clothing and accessories — some nearly new, others brand-new — at attractive prices.
In addition to being a bargain hunter's Mecca, Dena's is a place where you can generate extra cash by selling your own unneeded merchandise on consignment. You earn 40 percent of your sales — far easier than attempting to sell those same items at a garage sale or flea market.
Another benefit: Buying and selling at my store keeps useful items in circulation, enhancing our community's recycling efforts.
You'll discover quality, friendliness, customer service and bargains — oh yes, and Miss Kitty.
