Leigh Collins won the Monster Gym Harvest Run 5K women's race, held Oct. 10, in Grass Valley on a beautiful day, to mark her third victory in three attempts over the last two months, starting with the Race Against Hunger 5K in August, followed by the Run for Friendship 5K in September.
Leigh's winning time, which was also the best in the 19-29 age group (AG) and eighth overall, was 25 minutes, 11 seconds, moving her up from eighth place in that Grand Prix (GP) competition to second, with 30 points. Leigh will have to run the two remaining races in the ten-race series to qualify for any award.
There were 51 finishers in the 5K and 24 in the 10K for a total of 75, somewhat down from last year's first time event, which was held in the pouring rain and mud on this very hilly course.
Larry DeFeyter won the 5K and 30-39 AG in 20:38, a very fast time on a slow course, which boosted him to 72 points and clinched the victory in this GP for the year. Dean Garcia was the top local runner and second in this AG in the 10K in 49:46 (ninth).
The 10K was loaded with runners from Camptonville, with all six finishing in the top ten and five in the top six.
Chris Boyer won in 41:20, also taking first in the 19-29 AG, with Isaac Flattley second overall and first in the 30-39 AG in 43:42.

Interestingly, with no 19-29 male competitors in the 5K, there were six in the top ten in the 10K, with Jim Pelton being the only local finisher in 47:29 (seventh), good for fifth AG and clinching first place in this GP for him with 43 points.
The women's 10K race was dominated by runners in the 40-49 AG, with the top six all in that range, led by race winner Sue Piscatella, taking first by over two minutes in 56:43 (12th overall).
The next five women finishers were Kathleen Stranton in 59:15 (her first 10K, moving up into a tie for fourth in this GP with 34 points, 14th), Michele Hughes in 59:22 (15th), Yvonne Davidson in one hour, 3:55 (17th), Heather Bullis-Cruz in one hour, 3:57 (18th) and Jeanne Franklin in one hour, 8:00 (20th).

Yuba City's Mike Buzbee won the 50-59 AG (third) in 23:08, clinching first in this GP with 75 points. I was second AG (sixth) in 24:37, holding onto third in the GP with 42, while Frank Castro-Wehr was third AG (10th) in 25:33, fourth GP with 38. David Evans won this AG in the 10K in 55:08 (11th).
Callan Warner beat his mom for the first time (a proud moment for both, I'm sure!), winning the 10 and under AG in 25:31 (ninth), moving up to second in this GP with 41 points. Meadow Vista's Brendan Lynn was second AG in 26:05 (11th), while Joshua Fairchild was third AG in 29:32 (22nd), now third in this GP with 39.

Lynne Hurrell, matching Ron's undefeated record in all eight races this year, has already won the women's 70 and over GP with a perfect 80 points, her time in this race a fine 32:28 (29th).
Ava Warner won the 10 and under AG in 37:29, way faster than her first race even though this was a much tougher course.
