A Live Oak woman was arrested late Tuesday on suspicion of pepper-spraying three members of a family at their home.
Brenda Lue WhItman, 48, of the 2000 block of Paseo Avenue, went to the home of Liberato and Celedonia Macedo in the 9700 block of Larkin Road after a dispute earlier in the day between her daughter and the Macedos' 16-year-old son, said Lt. James Casner of the Sutter County Sheriff's Department.
When Liberato Macedo told Whitman to leave the property, she sprayed him and his son with the pepper spray, then sprayed Celedonia Macedo, who tried to prevent her from entering the property through a gate, Casner said.
Whitman was arrested at 7:31 p.m. at her home on suspicion of illegally using tear gas and booked into Sutter County Jail, where bail was set at $15,000. She was no longer being held Wednesday, according to jail records.
No permit is needed to carry pepper spray but using it for a purpose other than self-defense is illegal, said Casner.
