Larry and Terrie Collins of Lake Wildwood (pictured) will celebrate 50 years of marriage this Saturday.
They attended Maine Township in Park Ridge, Ill., together, and walked down the aisle twice — first for graduation and then a year later, Oct. 17, 1959 for their wedding.
Their honeymoon was spent at The Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago. They moved to Southern California in 1964 where Larry was a vice president of an insurance company.
They moved to Nevada County in 1979 with three of their four sons. Their oldest son, Larry, at 19, became the youngest Los Angeles County fireman.
Terrie has been in real estate since 1976 and Larry received his license in 1980. They both work at Wildwood West Real Estate in Penn Valley.
The Collins have four sons, Larry Jr. a Los Angeles County fire captain, who lives in Hermosa Beach. Their son Todd is a contractor and his wife Juliet owns Wildside clothing store in Grass Valley. Their son Chris also works in construction and his wife Elizabeth works at Hennessey School in Grass Valley. Their son Dan works at Wildwood West Real Estate with his parents. Between the three younger sons Larry and Terrie have nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two “greats” on the way.
The couple and 27 family members enjoyed a Mexican Riviera cruise over Easter to celebrate their union and renew their vows. They also flew back to Boston in September, rented a car and drove to Quebec and then down to Kennebunkport and Bar Harbor, Maine, enjoying leaf peeping. Their oldest son, Larry and his friend Lauren met them for some great lobster dinners.
The Collins are kept busy with their daily real estate activities and their spare time is filled with family get-togethers.
They attribute their happy marriage to having a sense of humor, keeping a positive attitude, respect for each other, good spiritual values, and eating lots of chocolates (not necessarily in that order).
