The Highway 49 Downieville Bridge will be closed daily from 7 a.m. Oct. 1 through 7 p.m. Oct. 22, and most traffic will have a detour, the California Department of Transportation said.
Vehicles longer than 23 feet, however, do not have a local detour. Motorists in these vehicles will not be allowed to cross the river and should plan their trips accordingly.
The closures are necessary to allow for paint removal and replacement on the bridge.
For vehicles 23 feet long or shorter, northbound traffic will detour off Highway 49 at Main Street, turn right at White Way, and then turn right onto Pearl Street. Pearl Street will return motorists to northbound 49. Southbound traffic will detour off Highway 49 at Pearl Street, turn left at White Way and then turn left onto Main Street. Main Street will return motorists to southbound 49.
Roadside message boards will post the latest information.
