Nevada Union's seven-time defending section championship volleyball team might not have been on top of its game Tuesday night, but the Miners still took care of visiting Davis in three games.
NU downed the Blue Devils 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.
“I think we had 28 hitting errors,” said NU coach Bob Rogers. “We scored more than half of Davis' points and that doesn't work against good competition.
“So, our real focus is to clean up our scoring.”
Playing without starter Ellie Selleck (ankle), the Miners still had enough hitting power to sweep through the nonleague match. Abbie Miraldi and Sierra Payne led the way with nine kills each, while Tessa Butterfield added six.
Taryn Salcedo totaled 18 assists at the setter position, while Madison Heppe led the defense with 17 digs. Marnie McDowell added six blocks up front, while Salcedo had six digs on the night and Victoria Kuhn had five.
The Miners (9-1) are back in action Thursday, hosting a highly touted Christian Brothers team.
JV: Nevada Union 2, Davis 0
NU's junior varsity also swept the Blue Devils, scoring a 25-11, 25-15 victory.
Torrie Miraldi and Sierra Bell led the hitting attack with six and five kills, respectively. Jenna Bell had eight service aces and eight assists, while Leila Whaley added six assists.
Miraldi led in defensive digs with four.
Lincoln 3, Forest Lake Christian 0
Morghan Pomeroy had a huge night for the Falcons, but it wasn't enough to stop Lincoln in a 25-15, 25-23, 25-16 nonleague, home-court loss.
Pomeroy totaled 10 kills, six digs and four blocks for FLC, while Jen Menary had 11 assists and four kills. Caitlin Hanson had six kills for the Falcons and Christy Johnston had five digs.
The Falcons (2-1) travel to Bradshaw Christian on Thursday.

Granite Bay 17, Nevada Union 6
The Grizzlies, the 2008 section runner-up, showed why their once one of the perennial powerhouse programs Tuesday, downing NU in the Miners home pool.
Nevada Union's Anders Price-Tison scored three goals, while Conner Holland had two and Phil Thompson added another.
Abraham Fish had 12 saves in goal for the Miners.
“He kept us fairly close,” NU coach John Sultan said of Fish. “They're the defending section runner-up. They're a very strong and solid team, still. But I thought we hung in there fairly well.”
The Miners (0-1) travel to Oakmont Thursday.
Water Polo (Girls)
Granite Bay 17, Nevada Union 3
After trailing 12-0 at halftime, the Lady Miners regrouped for a much closer second half of action in the loss to Granite Bay Tuesday.
“We changed up the defense and basically played them 5-3 the rest of the way,” said NU coach Craig Zetterberg. “It's a huge step for us.”
Angie Murphy scored all three goals for the Miners, while Devin Blaney and Marissa Turner drew praise from Zetterberg for their play in goal.
