Lives Lived: Carl McKissick

Carl Lewis McKissick of Grass Valley went home to the Lord on Aug. 18. He was 69.

Mr. McKissick was born in 1940 in Springfield, Tenn. He graduated in 1958 from Bransford High School.

He traveled across the country, living in Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. He worked for a while as a postal worker and then showed his culinary skills as a chef. Later in life, he settled in Nevada County.

Mr. McKissick was a gentle, peace-loving man who loved Jesus and God's word. He tried to apply what he learned from the Holy Bible in his day-to-day life.

For several years, Mr. McKissick was disabled and needed special care. Even in his pain and suffering, he found joy and contentment with his life because of his faith. Now, he no longer suffers because he is with the Lord he loves, and the road he traveled has taken him to his eternal home.

Mr. McKissick is survived by his cousin, James O. McKisic Jr. of Adairville Ky.; uncles James O. McKisic Sr. of Whitehouse, Tenn., Paul L. McKisic Sr. of Springfield, Tenn., and Sidney D. McKisic of Wilmington, Del.; aunt, Vivian Scott of Springfield, Tenn.; and many other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mayberry Jr., and mother, Mary Elizabeth McKissick.

Thank you to all who have meant so much to Mr. McKissick over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary and Crematory in Grass Valley.
