A family lost everything when their home burned down Sunday on Sweetland Road in North San Juan in a blaze not caused by the Yuba Fire.
They now need the help of Nevada County residents, according to the Western Nevada County Red Cross.
David Forkner, son David Forkner Jr., and girlfriend Arraya Figueroa, are staying at the Holiday Lodge in Grass Valley and are looking for a permanent place to live.
“They pretty well are left with nothing,” said county Red Cross Emergency Services Director Beverly Parr on Monday morning. “Social services will get them some clothes and food today,” and Parr is also getting help from the Salvation Army.
The three will need more clothing and food for the coming weeks and Forkner could use some logging equipment so he can go back to work, Parr said.
To help, you can call Forkner's brother, Brian Forkner, at 263-1587. David Forkner was expected to replace the cell phone he lost in the fire today, Parr said. That number is 559-5748.
The phone number at the motel is 273-4406 and the victims are staying in room 24.
“It was a total loss,” Brian said of his brother's home. “He was unable to get anything out.”
