Robert Elmer Conner died July 25 in Nevada City. He was 88.

He was born April 11, 1921, in Newell, S.D., to Elmer and Birdie Conner.
He graduated from high school in Nisland, S.D.
He married Elizabeth Conner in 1946.
He had many businesses in Belle Fourch, S.D., over the years, including a service station, the Butte County Ambulance Service, wrecker service for vehicles and semi-trucks, a backhoe service and an automotive salvage yard. He managed and maintained the Belle Fourche Country Club golf course along with his wife Elizabeth.
Before moving to Nevada City in 1978, he was a supervisor at the Baroid Bentonite plant in Wyoming. While living in Nevada City, he worked at the Alta Sierra golf course as a grounds keeper. He worked at Robinson Timber Enterprise as a heavy equipment operator until he retired.
He was a member of St. Canice Church, and enjoyed fishing, family and playing the lottery.
He is survived by daughters Sheri Ragans of Austin, Texas, Annette Davis of Nevada City and Rene Tyner of Orangevale; sons Michael Conner and Timothy Conner of Grass Valley and Gary Conner of Phlugerville, Texas.; sisters Roseada Rasmusson of Mesa, Ariz., Phyllis Gray of Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Rachel Hess of Punca City, Okla., brother, Jerry Conner of Belle Fourche, S.D.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Birdie Conner; wife, Elizabeth Conner, son, William Conner; daughter, Mary Kay Conner, brothers James and William Conner and sisters Mary Jo and Marie.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary and Crematory in Grass Valley.
