Shirley Lee Swindell shed the bonds of mortality to join the heavenly host on July 20 at the age of 82.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the LDS Nevada City Chapel, 615 Hollow Way, Nevada City.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1926, in Albany, Mo., to Calvin Russell Willis and Alice Geraldine Peacock Willis.
She was the wife of James L. Swindell.
She had many interests, was an avid gardener, a member of the Needlers quilting group and a member, for several years, of the Sweet Adelines. She loved to laugh, and dance with her children and taught the value of the healing hug. She had a grandmother who was a superb pie maker, leaving her with a lifelong love of pie. She enjoyed singing old hymns and recounting stories of her life and family while growing up in Missouri during the depression. She was the heart of the Swindell family and was known for her warmth and kindness by all who knew her. Her life revolved around her family and she was always there to share in both times of celebration and in times of need.
She is survived by her husband, James L. Swindell; her children Sandra L. Soldonia, Deborah Sue Swindell, Russell L. Swindell and Jama Jaye Swindell; her grandchildren Robert England, Laura England, Jacob England, Adena Andrade, Sara Swindell, Tess Swindell, Lily Swindell and Ryan Terry, and four great-grandchildren Alex England, Spencer England, Isabel England and Lucas England.
Arrangements are under direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary and Crematory.
