A Camptonville man was killed Sunday night on Highway 49 when his vehicle drifted off the road, crashed into a rock, and then rolled down an embankment near North San Juan.
Oscar L. Sanderson, 63, was northbound near New School Road West at 6:58 p.m. when the crash occurred, according to a California Highway Patrol statement.
As the 1986 Ford overturned down the embankment, it struck a concrete drain, which crushed the roof, according to CHP Officer Rich Nickell.
The car came to rest upside down and Sanderson was partially ejected, because he was not wearing a seatbelt, the CHP said. There were no other passengers.
An autopsy will be performed, Nickell said.
