The 2nd Annual Donny Martin Memorial Bull Ride returns to the Penn Valley Rodeo Grounds this weekend, July 17 and 18.
The event starts Friday with a spaghetti feed, an auction and raffles, trick roping, cowboy poetry and children's activities.
Saturday activities include mutton busting, a rodeo clown contest, raffles, calf dressing and calf roping, and the Donny Martin Memorial Bull Ride, produced by the Outlaw Rodeo Company, at 7 p.m. Call (530) 633-0887 to enter any event.
Gates open both days at 5 p.m. Admission Friday is $5, children under 12 are free. Saturday admission is $10, children under 6 are free. Parking is free both days.
The nonprofit Donny Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2008 to commemorate the life of Donny Martin, named Bullfighter of the Year eight times by the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association.
Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors in high school rodeo, presented at the California and Nevada State High School Rodeo Finals each June. This year's recipients are Bailey Corkill of Fallon, Nev., and Dustin Mackie from Los Olivos.
Advance tickets for the Bull Ride are $8. They're sold at:
