Nostalgic dinner, dance, warbirds, aerial demonstrations and more return to the Nevada County Airport!

Nevada County AirFest 2009 will take to the sky on Saturday at the Nevada County Airport. The action begins at 8 a.m. with the arrival of many rare and exotic airplanes within view from the traditional pancake breakfast hosted by Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter #1175. Nearly 20 different locally built kit planes, another twenty antique airplanes and many classic and new automobiles will be displayed in the immediate area of the breakfast!

Neighboring ramps will feature displays of World War Two P-51 Mustangs, Hawker Sea Fury, Grumman TBM, T-28s, AT-6s and many other warbirds prior to the full day of flying demonstrations set to begin at 10 a.m.

Fly-bys and demonstrations will also include CALFIRE air tankers and helicopter, air racers, antique and classic aircraft, radio-controlled model airplanes, nostalgic airplane rides and more.

The U.S.D.A. Forest Service Grass Valley Air Attack Base will host a hands-on and informative open house throughout the day while food, goods, youth activity vendors and many other displays make for fun for the entire family.

On Friday evening, there will be a 1940s themed hangar party and dinner/dance featuring “Sister Swing” performing at Alpine Aviation and Sierra Mountain Aviation hangars. Attendees will be surrounded by World War II airplanes and vintage vehicles with flying demonstrations to include a “sunset” water drop from the S2T air tankers.

An All-American tri-tip dinner will include fine wines from Nevada City Winery, beer and soft drinks followed by a patriotic swing dance in honor of our armed forces and emergency services.

The Friday evening hangar party will run from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Nevada County Airport located at 13083 John Bauer Ave. in Grass Valley. Advance tickets for the dinner/dance are $35 dinner and dance or $15 dance only. They are available at both SPD Markets, the BEAM Easy-Living CENTER and the Nevada County Airport Office. If the dinner is sold out, you may still attend the dance for $15 at the gate.

Admission to Saturday's AirFest is $10 adults and children 6 and under, free. Free parking and a courtesy shuttle service to the gates will be provided along Loma Rica Drive and within the airport industrial park.
