The Juliane Band from Napa returns to the Copper Top Lounge Friday and Saturday night to perform their roiling acoustic tunes plucked from all over the folk-pop-rock-country map.
Delivering powerful gems by Roy Orbison and Edith Piaf to Bob Dylan and the Monkees, this five-member band plays it their own way, including originals that demonstrate driving passion and eclectic range. An up-and-coming ensemble described by Napa Life reviewer as “a new and completely different” sound, The Juliane Band is a group of decidedly unaffected musicians whose one-year collaboration has already gone national, recently featured on Sedge Thompson's West Coast Live radio show, performing originals broadcast across the country on public radio stations.
“Our slogan I think describes us pretty well,” said lead guitarist Larry Otis, who has played with Ike and Tina Turner and Billy C. Farlowe. “Witty, romantic and sophisticated. Yeah, that's us.”
Heralded by Napa Marketplace magazine as “a fully formed musical personality … with a unique sound found nowhere else in the Bay Area,” The Juliane Band features Juliane Poirier on vocals, Larry Otis on 12-string guitar, mandolin and National steel; Steve “Dizzy Fingers” Steiner on accordion; John Ruch on rhythm guitar and harmony vocals; and Rob Crane on drums.
The band's first album on CD, One Red Boat, will be released later this summer, but a pre-release version of this originals-only recording will be for sale during both performances at Copper Top Lounge on Friday and Saturday.
