A Grass Valley man reported missing by his wife was identified Tuesday afternoon by the Sonoma County coroner's office as the victim of a fatal fall from a cliff.
Scott Ray Randall, 32, had been reported missing to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office Tuesday morning by his wife, said Sheriff's Lt. John Kropp.
“He was in Fairfield with his wife, visiting relatives,” Kropp said.
But on Sunday, instead of returning home with his wife, Randall decided to take a fishing trip and return home Monday night, Kropp said.
“He went fishing near Jenner,” said Randall's father-in-law, Dan Wager. “We think he slipped, trying to get down to the beach, and fell off the cliff. We think he died instantly.”
His wife, Elizabeth, reported him missing at about 9:45 a.m. Monday, when he had not returned and was not answering his cell phone.
Stan Randall, Scott's father, began searching for him in the area where he was known to go fishing, several miles north of Salt Point State Park, and found his body at the foot of the cliff, Wager said.
