Members of the Nevada City Council are expected to codify terms on how to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries in the city at their meeting at 7 p.m. today.
At a special meeting last week, several council members, including Sally Harris, asked the council to come up with terms of how such a business would operate, including hours of operation, how the product would be sold and whether any restrictions would be placed on the selling or smoking of the marijuana.
Nevada City resident Harry Bennett wants to open a dispensary in Nevada City and has taken out a business license for that purpose.
The city is also expected to name Reinette Senum as mayor for the 2009-10 fiscal year, replacing Barbara Coffman.
Council members also are expected to adopt uniform road-naming standards
The decision to adopt the standards comes a year after a road naming committee was established by Nevada County staff to “analyze the existing problems associated with county and city road naming standards.”
A city staff report notes there often are inconsistencies and difficulties when emergency responders go to addresses with similar names.
Proposed road-naming standards include:
• Road names no longer than 14 letters.
• Road names should have simple spelling and easy pronunciation.
• Numbers and letters to used as road names are to be avoided.
• Inappropriate or offensive names will not be permitted.
• Road names with identical or similar-sounding names within the county will not be permitted.
• Road names will be deemed duplicates even if they have a different suffix such as boulevard, lane, avenue or street.
• Roads with continuous alignment shall bear the same name.
• Road extensions shall bear the same name as the existing road.
• Prefixes such as north and south, east and west, upper and lower, should be avoided.
• Dead-end roads or cul-de-sacs of less than 800 feet shall be known as courts or places.
