Ten thousand gallons of partially treated sewage spilled into Wolf Creek today, Nevada County officials said.
The spill happened at early today at the Grass Valley wastewater treatment plant at 355 Freeman Lane, at the southern end of town, according to a statement from the county Environmental Health Department.
“The partially treated sewage that was discharged may contain bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms that can cause illness in humans and animals,” according to the statement.
“Care should be taken to prevent human and pet-animal contact with the sewage-contaminated area as long as warning signs are posted,” according to the statement from Environmental Health Director Wesley Nicks.
The problem that caused the spill was repaired at 8 a.m. today, Nicks said in the statement.
