Randy Young, owner of Young's Carpet One in Grass Valley, has bought his neighbor, Sierra Tile and Stone.

They are located side-by-side in the Home Center on Idaho-Maryland Road.

Mike Tigue has been a tile contractor since the 1970s. He and his wife, Pam Tigue, opened Sierra Tile in 1996.

“He and his staff are the most knowledgeable tile and stone people in Nevada County,” new owner Young said.

“I've been in the floor covering industry since 1972,” Young added. “Both of us have had our careers in Nevada County. From this town, we've done jobs as far away as Hawaii and as important as the California State Capitol building. Our normal range is from Sacramento to Truckee.

“We have a group of people, both sales and installation, at Young's and Sierra that are as trained and experienced as anyone, anywhere. As a bonus, you won't meet a more friendly bunch of people.”

Young and Tigue “realized our businesses complemented one another, and it made a lot of sense to operate them as one,” Young said. “We could combine warehousing, equipment, sales staff, accounting staff, purchasing power and lots of other things to save money. We can buy cheaper, operate more efficiently and pass the savings on to our customers.”

Being a local businessman, with family ties and nearly four decades in the area, he has “some (business) tools no one else has,” Young said.

That includes 20-year employees and their children, his children and their spouses working for him.

It also allows Young to make this warranty: “If you don't like your floor for any reason, we replace it free. Where does anyone do that?”
