Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills president Betzi Hart, left, presents Nevada County Diaper Drive coordinator Cathy Fagan with a $500 check for diapers and baby products for young families.
Generous folks respond to Diaper Drive
Early this year, Cathy Fagan started the Nevada County Diaper Drive Fund to help needy mothers in Nevada County.
“I have managed to raise funds through private fundraising and appealing to women's groups,” Cathy writes. “Just recently, the Soroptimist Club in the area donated $500 to the NC Diaper Fund toward the purchase of diapers, to be distributed through Interfaith Food Ministry.”
Folks at IFM distribute the diapers and baby products to more than 40 families at a cost of $100 per week, Cathy found.
Donations can be made to Nevada County Diaper Fund, Citizen's Bank, 11362 Pleasant Valley Road, Penn Valley, CA 95946. Also, unopened packages of diapers can be dropped off at Interfaith Food Ministry, 551 Whiting St., Grass Valley.
Paper sacks needed
At the Food Bank of Nevada County — our area's other food pantry for needy people — Executive Director Toni Thompson says she sorely needs paper grocery sacks. Volunteers pack them full of nonperishable and fresh goods for their clients, also growing in number.
Take them to the Food Bank at 12048 Charles Drive near the airport. If you have a whole lot of sacks, they'll pick them up; call them at 272-3796.
Readers' Corner is compiled by The Union staff. To submit items, e-mail them to readers@theunion.com, and put “RC” and your topic in the subject line, or call 477-4230.
