Jim Eckardt, the owner of Club 141 in Grass Valley, left, joins chef Bryan Lopin for a libation.
In celebration of his first year in business, Club 141 owner Jim Eckardt is donating 10 percent of the proceeds from Wednesday night sales in June to benefit Project Pink.
Eckardt and line cook Bryan Lopin — “the backbone of the business” — offer a variety of local wines, three beers on tap (Black Diamond Belgium Blonde Ale, Shock Top with an orange slice and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) and tapas, small plates of chicken skewers, fish tacos, sautéed mushrooms and stuffed peppers.
Eckardt moved to Nevada County in 1987 after living in Southern California; he now lives in Nevada City. He worked as a caterer until he saw the opportunity to buy a kitchen and storefront in downtown Grass Valley.
Now, as owner of Club 141, Eckardt still mainly caters through Jim E's Catering. He added the wine bar in June 2008, with a room that opens onto Mill Street when he rolls up the garage door.
To celebrate his success, Eckardt is donating to Project Pink and plans to contribute to other nonprofit organizations.
Club 141 offers an eclectic atmosphere with rusted roofing, cement floors, art, two fireplaces and lounging couches. Jazz and Latin music play in the background, and live music is welcomed.
His main goal is to provide an atmosphere that is comfortable and inviting, Eckardt said.
Club 141 is located at 141 East Main St. Hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
For more information call Club 141 at 273-3600.
