At Center of Movement Pilates studio in Alta Sierra, manager Haven Caravelli uses a system of body realignment and conditioning to create an individual process that finds each client's unique balance.
“We focus on what the entire body is doing,” Caravelli said.
Caravelli and Center of Movement owner Crissy Jory use the BodyCode system. They have both trained extensively with its founder, Pino Carbone of Florence, Italy.
Carbone developed the system through his own concept of yoga and the ArtForm System, a series of exercise devices such as the MasterStretch boots, Elvis the Pelvis, the Sculptor, the Geometrix and Pegasus, all of which are used at Center of Movement.
“When I started going over a year ago, I was so out of alignment,” said Edy Putz of Alta Sierra. “I was 40 pounds heavier on my right side than my left side. I also had one shoulder higher than the other.
Putz began private lessons with owner Crissy Jory. “I was aching,” said Putz. “Crissy gave me a series of exercises to do and things to be aware of, such as simply balancing straight on my feet.”
After three months, with her posture now straight, Putz attends group classes three times a week with Caravelli.
“Crissy still gives me the once over and she and Haven communicate often about how to proceed with my exercises. They're tuned in to me,” Putz added.
“We work with doctors, physical therapists and acupuncturists for rehabilitation of the body,” said Caravelli. “We work on the nervous system, the physical body and the bony structure. It's very fine tuned.”
