Walking the trash talk

The Center for The Arts in Grass Valley recently presented the return of Troupe de Trash — a runway fashion show that included outfits made exclusively from everyday waste.

The two hour show included more than 30 models strutting their stuff and showing over 170 unique outfits that included head-pieces, skirts, shawls and much more. 10 designers created the fashions for the theme of the show celebrating fashion through the ages.

Categories such as “Dawn of Time", “Feudal Japan", the “1600s”, and

“Futuretastic Collection” were some of the titles given to the sub-themes of each presentation.

John Deaderick, was the master of ceremonies for the two evenings. The underling intent of the show was to open the mind to embrace the differences in age and beauty and rethink the notions of “reduce, re-use, and recycle” as it pertains to trash. The show was (in the author's opinion) a huge success and provided a display of the support of the local diversity and richness of the people in the area.

Troupe de Trash is comprised of six local designers of incredible talent loosely based out of North San Juan. Information and details of the

Troupe de Trash group can be accessed at www.troupedetrash.net.
