Briar Patch Café is hosting a month-long exhibition of jazz art starting Saturday and showing through July 6. The art of world-famous local artists E.J. Gold, Grace Kelly Rivera, Douglass-Truth and R.C. Trice will be on display.
Trice’s popular local band inya eeya will perform the opening show for the jazz art exhibition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. This will also be free and open to the public.
Legendary jazz bassist Bill Douglass and his talented wife Nora Nausbaum will entertain at a free reception from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 21. R.C.
Douglass and Nausbaum describe themselves as the “papa and momma of Jazz Camp,” an annual Nevada County event bringing together jazz talents and jazz students, this year from Wednesday, July 15 to Sunday, July 19. For more information visit sierrajazzsociety.com.
Gold, Rivera, Truth and Trice were the artists chosen to exhibit at the grand, spectacular opening of San Francisco’s new Jazz Heritage Center and in the recent, much-acclaimed Cool City ... Hot Jazz exhibit at Jazz Heritage Center’s Lush Life Gallery.
E.J. Gold is well-known throughout the jazz community, chosen as the Official Artist of the International Association of Jazz Education, his JazzArt appearing on stage with jazz greats including Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Nancy Wilson, Nneena Freelon, Marion McPartland, Chick Corea and others; and at the Hollywood Bowl, B.B. King’s in New York City, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and many, many performance venues. Gold’s portrait of Herbie Hancock is in the Smithsonian – in the permanent collection of the American Museum of Natural History.
Rivera is a widely-exhibited artist, known for her mystical canvases, whose works have shown on the European continent and in the former Soviet Union, a Flamenco dancer who has performed locally with the group Flamenco del Oro, and is a perfumer specializing in the creation of intentional and spiritually relevant atmospheres.
Douglass-Truth is an award-winning author as well as a painter whose collectors number in the hundreds. He operates the Teahouse of Danger in Grass Valley, where he performs and shows his work and offers his books, prints and other unique creations.
R.C. Trice is an accomplished harmonica player and visual artist. His paintings are in the permanent collections of both the Nevada County Courthouse and the Eric Rood Administration Center.
