Some out-of-towners on an off-road adventure got a few more thrills than they bargained for Sunday.
An family from El Dorado County had gone out off-roading in their brand-new SUV when they got into trouble at about 5 p.m. Sunday, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.
They had gone to the Eagle Lakes turnout and had had some difficulty crossing Fordyce Creek, he said.
After spending the day off-roading, they tried to cross the creek again, but got into trouble due to increased water flow.
They got stuck and called for help, Royal said.
The Search and Rescue Team was dispatched and found the five occupants of the SUV had left the vehicle and were perched on the hood, Royal said.
The team called in a California Highway Patrol helicopter, which removed them all to safety, he said.
