Indecent exposure suspect back in jail

A Penn Valley man who had just been released from jail for indecent exposure and sexual battery was quickly rearrested after he allegedly tried to break into multiple vehicles in the parking lot of the Nevada County jail.

Michael Anderson Poole, 21, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Alta Sierra Market because a naked man was “banging” on the door.

“He was dancing around the parking lot,” said Sheriff’s Lt. John Kropp, adding that Poole allegedly had accosted a woman in the lot before a deputy arrived.

“He advanced on the officer and wouldn’t stop until he was pepper-sprayed,” Kropp said. “He then made another advance on her and was pepper-sprayed again. He still wasn’t complying until another officer arrived and showed him a Taser.”

Poole was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, sexual battery, battery on a peace officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and released Wednesday on $3,500 bail.

But Poole didn’t have freedom for long.

“He went outside and started trying to get into cars in the parking lot of the jail,” said Nevada City police Chief Lou Trovato. “He was stopping people and asking for implements so he could get into a car or get a ride.”

Poole was rearrested, this time on suspicion of tampering with vehicles. He was being held for mental evaluation, Trovato said.
