Atomic Lounge owner Alex Guy will share his love of comics at a free comic book day at his Grass Valley shop at 129 Neal St.
The Atomic Lounge is looking to blow the socks of you and your kids by hosting a free comic book event from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
As part of a national effort by comic book providers to spur literacy, the downtown Grass Valley shop will be giving away copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Star Wars and others as a way to get more kids into comic books.
Patrons can take more than one comic book.
The event comes at a great time for shop owner Alex Guy, who has had “slow” year so far.
“It was my one-year (anniversary) on April 25,” Guy said. “I hope I can make it another year. At least through summer, because that’s my busiest time.”
Fans of the X-men series will also benefit this weekend, as Guy will set up a table outside of the Del Oro Theatre for the opening of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
“Most of the books are kind of kids oriented,” Guy said, noting adults are welcome, too.
In addition, the Atomic Lounge is stocked with comic books ranging from 50 cents to $3, claiming at least 1,000 books at $1.
