If you like funny, farcical and frolicsome, Lake Wildwood Theatres recent production of Neil Simons Rumors would have pleased your palate. This is a hide-and-seek play about a politician who may or may not have purposefully shot himself, and his friends who try to keep rumors from spreading (and in so doing, spread plenty of their own). In fact, the focal character the politician is never seen nor heard, just constantly talked about, making this play like a who-dunnit on a few too many vodkas.
Nicely paced by director Kathy Goldie, Rumors is serious silliness performed by a ten person ensemble that interacted smoothly and humorously. The excellent and attractive set, designed and built by many hands, worked very well for the numerous entrances and exits that kept the action flowing.
The problem with plays performed at the clubhouse in Lake Wildwood is that they arent accessible to the general public. However, rumor has it that the play Rumors will be brought in toto, including the set, to the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley during the weekend of May 22 throuh24. So check it out for some nicely done, funny farce.
Hindi Greenberg has previously seen a number of Lake Wildwood Theatres productions and hopes that they continue to open them to the general public after their at-home run at the Lake Wildwood clubhouse.
