Local contractors from Sierra Foothills Construction, Tru-Line Builders and Clark and Sullivan Construction have been selected to negotiate a guaranteed minimum contract for new construction and remodeling work at the Sierra College Nevada County campus.
The selection of a contracting team for the $11 million project was made public today.
Rudolph and Sletten, based in Redwood City, also submitted a bid on the project.
"The college has two very good options, but we are negotiating first with the local team," said Sierra College trustee Aaron Klein, who represents Nevada County. "If we're unable to reach an agreement with the local team, then we have a good No. 2 to fall back on.
Klein estimated it would be a $30 million economic stimulus to Nevada County if the locals were ultimately selected to do the project.
"This is so huge," said Tru-Line Builders owner Tim Brady. "We're going to employ well over 50 local subcontractors that represent hundreds of jobs in Nevada County. This is the largest single stimulus to hit Nevada County in a long time.
"It's huge for our community," said Barbara Bashall, executive director of the Nevada County Contractors Association. "The best thing is putting back to work a lot of out-of-work contractors and employees as soon as possible."
