June Potter of Grass Valley passed away Dec. 29, 2008, at the home of her daughter in her beloved Washington.
She was 80.
Services are to be in the spring. June was born June 12, 1928, in Oakland to William and Florence Havens. She was raised in the Oakland-Berkeley area, and attended Berkeley High School.
As a teenager she spent time in Sierra City working at the Sierra City Hotel. She met her husband, Harry Potter, in Berkeley, and they were married August 1946 in Carson City, Nev. They had four children.
Every year the family would travel to Washington where she could be herself: Hiking, fishing, and gold mining. She enjoyed spending time with her brother “Uncle” Chuck, his family and their friends, playing cribbage.
She enjoyed hunting for fossils, making jewelry, drawing, carving, and working at the Empire Mine in the Rose Garden.
June was an adventurous explorer, always curious about the world around her. She instilled those qualities in her children. She was an outstanding mother and teacher.
June is survived by her sons Michael Potter of Snohomish, Wash., and Kevin Potter of Washington; daughter, Katy Potter of Washington; granddaughter, Sara Rowland of Washington; grandson, Russell Rowland of Washington, and great-grandchildren Amber and David.
She was preceded in death by Harry Potter and Glen Potter.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 11270 Rough and Ready Hwy., Grass Valley, CA 95945.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
