A Bay Area couple arrested outside Nevada City in the wee hours of Dec. 3 on suspicion of possessing drugs, weapons and burglary tools were in court this week for a preliminary hearing.
Judge Julie McManus found Kama Rebecca Brooks, 40, of San Leandro, must face charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and possession of burglary tools.
Brooks will be arraigned Jan. 2 in Nevada County Superior Court, Assistant District Attorney Oliver Pong said.
Christopher Jon Dossi, 35, of Hayward, is facing charges of possessing burglary tools and a billy club, as well as possessing Vicodin without a prescription and drug paraphernalia.
Dossi entered a plea of no contest to the charges of possessing the club and the burglary tools, Pong said. The case has been sent to the probation department for a sentencing recommendation. Sentencing for Dossi is tentatively scheduled for February.
A resident of Banner Lava Cap and Red Dog Cross roads called at 3:22 a.m. Dec. 3 to report a white Mitsubishi was parked with two people inside.
When Nevada County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they searched the car and allegedly found a .30-06 rifle with an attached homemade silencer, methamphetamine and heroin, meth pipes, a wooden club and a hacksaw blade in the woman’s purse.
A charge against Dossi of possessing a silencer was dropped, Pong said.
“It was a 24-ounce plastic Pepsi bottle taped to the end of the rifle,” Pong said.
