Falcons' run ends in quarterfinals

Forest Lake Christian’s volleyball season came to an end at Big Valley Christian Thursday night with a 3-0 loss in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs.

The 11th seed Falcons (16-10) fell to No. 3 Big Valley Christian 25-21, 25-19, 26-24.

The match ended on what FLC coach Laura Allred considered a questionable call, ruling a ball in bounds that she believed was clearly out.

“It was a crucial one,” Allred said. “It was a turning point, because they got the point and they got to serve and they got the win.

“It was a bummer, but there were 25 other points there.”

The Falcons were led by Morghan Pomeroy’s eight kills and five blocks. Jen Menary had 10 assists at setter and Caitlin Hanson had seven kills. Tasha Haddad served up six aces.

“It’s been an exciting year,” Allred said. “I’m going to miss spending time with the girls and seeing them smile, watching them sweat and go for the ball.

“I know they’re disappointed, but that’s just the way the game goes. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. And tonight wasn’t our time.”

Big Valley Christian (20-10) advances to Tuesday’s semifinal, where they will host the winner of Thursday’s match between No. 2 Stone Ridge Christian (14-8) and No. 7 Ripon Christian (16-14).
