The Nevada County Association of Realtors has adopted a resolution opposing Measure Y and Measure Z in Grass Valley, the two growth-related measures that will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.
The association becomes the latest business, school or economic development group to oppose the measures. The Nevada Joint Union High School District, the Economic Resource Council, the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce and the county Farm Bureau also have opposed both initiatives.
If theres a feeling that a change is needed, we dont feel that Y and Z are the answers, said Larry Harley, president of the county association of realtors.
Measure Y is the Limited Growth Initiative spearheaded by Mayor Mark Johnson. It calls for a fixed number of houses built in the city and a public vote on expanding boundaries of the citys growth.
Measure Z is backed by Citizens Concerned About Traffic and would lock into place the citys 2020 General Plan until 2038. Most developments proposing a use for the property that is more intensive than what the plans land-use map allows would require voter approval.
We felt it was in our best interests to leave the public hearing process undisturbed, Harley said. We just dont believe Y and Z are the answer.
Harley said he was not at liberty to give a breakdown of how the 15-member board passed the vote only that the group of 800 real estate agents, Realtors and people who subscribe to the Multiple Listing Service voted to support a resolution against the measures.
