The elements couldn't stop Bear River's girls cross country team this weekend, winning the first annual Wildfire Invitational in Foresthill Saturday.
In a downpour of rain, Denise Julian (21:24.1), Breann Mitchell (21:49.4) and Harla Moe (25:21.7) blazed their way to the 5-kilometer win, finishing in first, second and sixth.
Chloe Moe (16:26.5) and Elizabeth Boyer (18:29.7) finished thrid and fifth in the frosh girls 2-mile race.
Shawndar Johal (21:56.9) finished 10th overall for the varsity boys.

JV: NU wins tourney
Nevada Union's junior varsity girls volleyball team won the Granite Bay tournament over the weekend, collecting six wins in the process.
The Miners beat Ponderosa, St. Francis, Oakmont and El Molino in pool play before dousing St. Francis again in the semifinals and following with a win 2-0 win over Union Mine in the championship.
Miranda Castles led the team with 28 kills in the tournament. Natalie Migliozzi had 18 kills while Taryn Salcedo racked up 113 assists.
Jenna Britton was named to the all-tournament team with 19 kills while Halee Koch was also named to the team.
