People attending a tournament and silent auction at the Tennis Club at Lake of the Pines Saturday view some of the items up for auction. Proceeds from the event help fund children with imprisoned parents attend a summer camp at Wolf Mountain Camps.
The Tennis Club at Lake of the Pines sponsored a tournament and silent auction on Saturday to benefit children of imprisoned parents from Nevada County and surrounding areas. Their sponsorship of Angel Tree Camping will help fund the children's summer camp attendance at Wolf Mountain Camps.
Angel Tree Camping was founded locally by Joyce and Matt Biggs of Lake Wildwood and is a division of the national nonprofit, Prison Fellowship Ministries.
At the time of its founding locally 12 years ago, the national foundation funded the local children for camping. Nevada County residents gradually took responsibility, however, and presently have taken full responsibility to send all children to camp for a week. This past summer 75 children were funded to attend camp at Wolf Mountain.
Morning rain dampened the full day plans for the charity event at Lake of the Pines, as players registered for morning play watched rain fall on the lake from the clubhouse windows while enjoying coffee, muffins and table tennis. The buffet luncheon and silent auction followed with play conducted as planned on dry courts in the afternoon.
Everyone involved is to be credited with the success of the event which includes planners, tennis players, silent auction donors and bidders as well as sponsors. Nevada County children of imprisoned parents will enjoy the benefits of this effort next summer.
