Janet Arbuckle, 57, grew up in Southern California, attended college and has been a Grass Valley resident for five years.
The candidate retired here as a deputy from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office. She continues to volunteer as a peer support group coordinator there, and she set up a similar program for the Grass Valley Police Department.
Arbuckle served on the Nevada County Grand Jury and was appointed to the City Council to replace Councilman Dean Williams in 2006 over 10 other candidates.
The incumbent said her "calm demeanor and willingness to listen," is why she was selected. Arbuckle wants to find new revenue sources to keep city services solvent and is working on a plan for workforce housing.
