Duckie, are you the One?
More than 9,000 plastic duckies bobbled down Deer Creek Saturday to raise money for the many local organizations supported by 49er Breakfast Rotary Club.
Nevada City resident Monte Schultz, novelist and son of the famous cartoonist, won the 17th Annual Gold Country Duck Race, held Saturday on Deer Creek in Nevada City.
Schultz, who was out of town, will receive his $5,000 winning check this week. He held the ticket for the pink racing duck that emerged from a field of more than 9,000 ducks to win the annual event.
Schultz is a novelist and the son of the late "Peanuts" cartoonist Charles Schultz.
Katherine Carpenter won the $1,000 runner-up prize, and Jocelyne Pletto placed third, winning $500. Many other cash and merchandise prizes also were awarded.
Paulettes Country Kitchen was the winner of the sponsors race.
